We are located in Salmagi, a part of the Comune Quartu Sant’Elena, in a delightfully quiet location with excellent connections, in the south of the island between the capital city of Cagliari and Villasimius.
The villa is located on the panoramic coastal road SP17 in direction Torre delle Stelle, Solanas and Villasimius.
Well connected also in direction Poetto, Cagliari, Nora and Chia (West, SS554) and direction Costa Rei, Muravera and Arbatax (East, SS125 and SS125var) through the nearby access road to the highway.
The near nature park “Parco Naturale Regionale di Sette Fratelli” opens up beautiful hiking and cycling routes in a green and natural landscape.
Since we are in a rural area we recommend a vehicle. Restaurants and supermarkets are not within walking distance from our villa. The full beauty and diversity of the island can best be explored if you are mobile by car, motorbike or scooter.
Cycling is more for the sporty as the roads are curvy and hilly or you take the e-bike.
There are two bus lines that stop nearby and head towards Quartu Sant’Elena, Cagliari or Villasimius.
There are also intercity bus routes and trains for further travel for example to get from Cagliari to Alghero, Olbia, Golfo Aranci or Santa Teresa di Gallura. The schedules can be found online on arst.sardegna.it (Bus), trenitalia.it (Train) and on Google maps.
Sardinia is a paradise for nature lovers, outdoor sports enthusiasts, hikers, climbers, cyclists and people who want to enjoy unspoilt nature.
The multifaceted island has numerous archaeological and cultural sites, towns worth seeing, murals, museums and churches, extensive nature parks, flamingo and wild bird habitats, waterfalls, natural thermal baths, salt pans, lakes and much more to offer.
We are located at the beginning of a coastal road with beautiful beaches and bays. It is worth exploring, e.g: Mari Pintau (8 min), Kal’e Moru (10 min), Torre delle Stelle (15 min) and Porto Sa Ruxi (25 min), Spiaggia di Porto Giunco (30 min) and Punta Molentis (35 min) in Villasimius. The Costa Rei, with around 10 kilometres of white sandy beach, can also be reached in 35 minutes.
You also find a lot of watersport activities. Besides wind and kitesurfing there are good spots for surfing. There is sailing all year around in Sardinia, also canoe, stand up paddle or gommone (Italian rubber boat with outboard motor). Anyone who prefers to go underwater can discover the lively underwater world or wrecks while diving or snorkelling.
The island gets crowded in summertime, especially in the months of July and August around the holiday “Ferragosto” (15th August), while the off-season months and especially winter offer a completely different view of the island.
Whoever prefers swimming and beach holidays, wants to join a lively crowd, visit the countless beach bars, prefers sun beds and umbrellas and get refreshment in the crystal-clear water will get find that best in the peak of summer. Expect up to 40 degrees Celsius. A sun umbrella is a must and there is Caribbean vibes at the beach. The mild summer evenings invite to have an Aperitivo on the beach.
The months of May, June, September, October until December are ideal for active people because the temperatures are more moderate than in the summer (between 25-30 degrees,; from November around 20 degrees). Perfect also for climbing, hiking, cycling or sightseeing tours. There is very little precipitation.
The winter months are quite varied as far as the weather is concerned. Precipitation to be expected. Generally the South is warmer than the North. Many resorts, restaurants and shops remain closed. The island appears lush and green, everything is growing, there is a calm in the air and a beautiful light over the island.
Swimming in the sea is possible from May to with warm temperatures. Tough ones go into the water all year round. However, it drops below 15 degrees Celsius over the months of January to April and only begins to warm up again in May.
This secret gem of the Mediterranean is far more than the famous Costa Smeralda in the North of the island. As the second largest but least populated Mediterranean island it offers far more national parks, mountain regions and dream beaches than most. The island is also known for its many four-legged inhabitants: sheep and goats that provide for the wonderful Pecorino and Caprino cheese, donkeys that you can pet, wild and domestic horses. Wildlife and birds also have enough space to live in such a natural environment. The nice thing about it is that there are no dangerous animals on the island and you can therefore also feel safe when you are hiking or camping.
Sardinia is one of 5 »Blue Zones« in the world. These are places where an unusual amount of people reach an age of over 100 years. It is also astonishing that in Sardinia most of the »Centinarios« (centenarians) are men which is rather extraordinary as women generally have a higher life expectancy. But why do people live so long here?
American scientist and adventurer Dan Buettner discovered 5 places in the world, the so-called »Blue Zones«, where people live longer and are healthier than elsewhere: These are Okinawa (Japan), Sardinia (Italia), Nicoya (Costa Rica), Ikaria (Greece) and Loma Linda (California).
His studies found that people in these places have 9 lifestyle habits that Buettner’s research found account for the unusual longevity. These include constant natural movement, a sense of purpose in life, downshifting & relaxing, eating to maximum 80% capacity, consuming mainly plant-based & natural foods, moderate drinking (e.g. Cannonau, preferably in company), community and a spiritual practice, living in a family environment and strong social contacts. There are many books on this topic written by Dan Buettner, »Blue Zones« Founder and Author.
